Samsung Galaxy S9 Codenamed ‘Star’: Reports
It’s important to note that the name – Samsung Galaxy S9 – is a default one. And, the moniker is what our anticipations take us to. The reports say, Samsung’s next has been codenamed ‘Star’.
By all accounts, the launch of Samsung Galaxy S9 is going to be a high-key event in 2018. But, the company is not taking just a single smartphone to the launch pad, and planning a larger sibling to S9, like how it launched a 5.8-inch S8 with a 6.2-inch S8+. So, we again anticipate that the larger S9+ is likely doing the rounds as ‘Star 2’.
All this information has its source in South Korea, Samsung’s turf.
Other information, regarding the dimensions, size and weight of the devices, are a matter of time. We expect these details to pop out soon online. But, it’s being speculated that the S9 will have Gorilla Glass 5 screen protection, and will also sport a metallic body.
Samsung Galaxy S9 – Major Insights
There are reports that Samsung S9 will be developed on the same lines as that of Samsung S8 in terms of screen layout and specifications. And, this doesn’t astonish us at all, after all, the South Korean giant brought its best when it did the displays for S8 and S8+.
Let your memory take you a little back, and recall what Samsung proudly referred its bezel-less screen as – ‘Infinity Display’. So, don’t get surprised if you’ll get the same with S9. However, take this information with a pinch of salt, because there is no end to the road of innovation, and there’s always something new to look beyond.
Samsung failed to embed fingerprint scanner inside the display in its last rollouts. It’ll be interesting to see if it successfully implements it in S9.
Also, there’s been a tip that the device will come equipped with a 4K visually enhanced display, providing a high-resolution, ultra-dynamic screen view with strong digital capabilities. Notably, this feature has been conjectured to debut the markets with Galaxy Note 8 towards the end of this year.
If there’s any credence to these reports, we’re all set to lay our hands on 4K display with Galaxy Note 8, much more ahead than the launch of Galaxy S9 in 2018.
There are certain images in circulation suggesting that Galaxy S9 will come with Bixby 2.0 tweak, along with 3 Edge Infinity Display, as what we’ve mentioned above.
- We’re likely to see Front Camera and Sensors at the front bottom of the smartphone.
- Supercapacitor Battery is a marvel addition, filling up the battery meter in just 2 minutes. An innovative thought, indeed!
- If Samsung succeeds, we might also see fingerprint sensor inside the display. This means, we will be able to open the smartphone by touching anywhere on the screen.
- Samsung Galaxy S9 has the best slim standards – you might see the sleekest design ever.
Processor And Memory Capacity
With the best feature lineup for Galaxy S8 and S8+, Samsung has created the highest benchmarks in the industry yet to be chased. Since these smartphones have made a cut as the best Android smartphones ever, the target for S9 is daunting.

Samsung Galaxy S9 is reported to sport an Exynos 9810 octa-core processor, clocked at 2.5GHz higher frequency and 1.5GHz lower frequency. What RAM, you may ask? It’s 6GB of RAM, along with 256GB of onboard storage.
Some reports have also suggested that Samsung is planning to integrate Snapdragon 845 processor, coming from the house of Qualcomm, into its upcoming device. That being so, expect S9 working at a blazing speed with tasks and downloads happening in a jiffy.
Snap addicts, attention! The Samsung Galaxy S9 camera specifications, as what has been largely billed as, are sure to knock you over.

The company hasn’t launched a dual-camera camera arrangement for any of its device so far, and it is planning one for Note 8, which is all set to see the light of the day anytime between August and September 2018. If Note 8 gets dual camera, it would be the first-gen dual camera setup by Samsung. And, who knows, the company may also further the trend with its S9 flagship? If yes, Samsung Galaxy S9 will be the second phone to boast the dual-camera, albeit with certain improvements.
If tips are to be believed, the S9 will sport a main camera of 31MP, and a front camera of 12MP. Coming to know such specs, we’re sure that Samsung is breaking new grounds, and trying out everything it can to launch nothing less than a ‘beast’ of a smartphone. This is all we have regarding S9’s camera features, but one thing’s sure:
With such exquisite details, we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung successfully throttles its competition with Apple.
The techies at Samsung are slogging their days to join the dots for SuperCapacitor Battery module for Galaxy S9. The South Korean giant is pulling its sleeves up to wrest this proprietary technology, and if it succeeds, this would be the ‘first’ for any smartphone company. This could be the tide-turner we’ve been waiting for.
Mind you, SuperCapacitor Battery is no small talk, especially when it’s coming inside a compact smartphone. Imagine a device getting charged in seconds, but working for a full day. That’s SuperCapacitor in a non-geek speak!
And, since the South Korean giant is said to have been working on 7nm chipset, the battery will be power efficient and perfectly optimized to manage tasks. The upcoming S device is expected to be 30% more powerful than its predecessors.
Clearly, Samsung is aiming at an unparalleled innovation, and no measure less than that. The Galaxy S9 is going to be one of a kind, and all set to be as good as S8, or even better.
Samsung Galaxy S8 ad S8+ are huge in terms of cost. The price tags are mind-boggling, but considering what Samsung is offering at an exchange of such a hefty price, we have to say that it’s worth every dime.
As rumors go around, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will cost anywhere between $900-$950. If this is true, the device will dent your pockets a little deeper than S8 and S8+ flagships, and also, the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus, scheduled for a mega release in September this year.
More Scoops to Digest
- Samsung is piecing together a special AMOLED screen for its S9 and S9 Plus, which has been codenamed ‘Sunflower’.
- As mentioned before, Samsung is toggling between two processor variants for its next. One being the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, and the other one is the company’s indigenous chipset – Exynos 9810. We may get two versions of the device, or may not. Seems like a good deal!
- Samsung is getting you the action of Galaxy Gear VR with its S9. Well, this is what web leaks have to say. Samsung’s other device, Note 8, scheduled to release in August 2018, is known to bring in the same feature to the decks.
- Apart from a battery with 40% of power efficiency, Galaxy S9 handsets are also reported to sport non-flammable batteries, which is seen as a calculated move to avoid the Note 7-like battery fiasco.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus – We Wish The Smartphones Pack These Features
There is very little we know about the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus that holds certainty. But, there are a set of improved features we ardently wish these smartphones come replete with.
- A Foldable Screen

The world sits at the cusp of a revolutionary trend, and that’s a foldable screen. Though rumors of Samsung Galaxy X, having a foldable screen, are continuing unabated for a while, we expect a shift in company’s plans to launch its S9 and S9 Plus variants with foldable, pocket-fitting screens. This, undoubtedly, will change the scenario as to how we look at, and handle smartphones, and will give a new facelift to Samsung’s stature in the global quarters.
On the reverse side, as per the comments, received from a Samsung official, the company has resisted itself from launching any version of foldable displays till 2019.
All we can do is to keep our fingers crossed!
- A Fingerprint Sensor Inside The Screen
Isn’t this obvious?
Samsung and Apple both are vying for the top-notch arrangement where fingerprint sensor can be found inside the display. While Apple is not bringing the same with its iPhone 8, we expect that Samsung makes it work.
Though the company has thought of a nice touch-sensitive home button, we would be happier if it nails down this trend with Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus before anybody else in the industry.
- Small like iPhone SE
Samsung might have amazing feats in its resume to show, but it has still not given a thought to developing an Android alternative to iPhone SE.
Forget the success stories of Samsung for a while, and just hope that the South Korean giant brings a smaller display with S9, which can be of a good competition to iPhone SE.
- Dual-Lens Camera
There is a flurry of rumors on Samsung Galaxy S9, and one of them has even suggested that the device will carry a dual-lens shooter, like what we know about iPhone 7 Plus, and the LG G6 launched during the start of this year.
We’re sure that Samsung must have struck gold with its camera specs for S9, but we hope, it pushes itself off the league, and builds a dual-lens camera for its next ‘S’ handsets.
- A Cheaper S9
There is no doubt that Samsung is clearly acing the new innovations, and continues to descend the markets with some powerful smartphones. However, these devices are not congenial to the budget, and require you to really jostle with your savings to buy one.
We expect that Samsung brings down its price cap, if possible, for its upcoming smartphones.
As apparent, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is taking shape to rock the charts like never. With best chipsets (Both Snapdragon and Exynos), classic camera, energy-efficient battery, AMOLED 4K display and much more, the device will give a thumping start to Samsung’s 2018, if launched in the initial few months. But, we need to take all this information with a grain of salt, as nothing has been with confirmation yet. These are just wild speculations and some leaks out of the mould.
As what we can apparently figure out, there would be a couple of limitations with S9, price being the major one. But, on second thoughts, limitations are with every device. We shouldn’t wink at the fact the Galaxy S9 could be the best smartphone with fabulous looks and beastly performance.
This is all we have to tell you about Samsung Galaxy S9. Keep watching this space for more on upcoming gadgets and trends.
